Why do many college students think that writing does not go beyond their high school years? NEWS FLASH! Writing is necessary in all fields of study not only this one. If you aren't a fan of writing, let me tell you that this major won't let you off the hook so easily.

As a Speech-Language Pathologists and a SLP Assistants writing will always be a part of our lives. We need it on a daily basis: from writing patient reports, to emails, and treatment plans. College is only trying to prepare us for this, but instead of putting effort into our writing we barely even try. Why is this? It's because we often consider what we learn in school to not be useful after. Just like Engineers need math we SLPs need writing. Not only is writing in this field important, but it's critical. Let's say we get a scenario in which we have to present our reports to a court because of an issue with a client. Say those reports aren't well written or there are many misspelled words, what will people think of you? They'll think that you aren't professionally fit for your position, and they'll judge you.. oh boy will they judge you. Not only that, but how embarrassing would it be to have someone criticize you in the field you are passionate about. Bottom line is that writing is SO important, and it's never too late to improve. There are plenty of resources on any college campus that can help. Check out your campus library and the writing center as well. If you are looking for online resources make sure to check out Google Scholar, GrammarGirl, and Purdue Owl. Until next time!
